The Kyiv Municipal Academy of Performing and Circus Arts is actively expanding its collaboration in the global educational environment. In 2023, the Academy became a member of ELIA (European League of Institutes of the Arts) and this year, it participated in a symposium titled “The Beginning of Now,” which took place in Manchester from October 16 to 20.
The ELIA Leadership Symposium gathered leaders in the field of artistic education, thinkers, and researchers with extensive experience in the realm of artistic education. Among the active participants in this symposium was a representative from our Academy, the Assistant Rector and the initiator of this collaboration – Nina Araya. The “The Beginning of Now” symposium aimed to address global challenges such as the standard of living crisis, military conflicts, environmental hazards, and social injustice, and to explore how changes in the educational system can help students navigate these challenges.
The symposium invited participants to stimulate, experiment, exchange ideas, and develop new approaches to leadership in artistic education. Participants discussed new political ideologies and leadership theories, contributing to the evolution of thinking about radical changes in education.
The symposium also served as a platform for exploring new and alternative leadership models that could foster a new way of thinking. Initiatives launched at this symposium aimed to create a framework that would support ELIA’s strategic priorities in the future.
With the participation of the Kyiv Municipal Academy of Performing and Circus Arts and other artistic educational institutions from around the world, the symposium provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, present research projects and methodologies in artistic education, and contribute to the development of future education. It marked the beginning of something new, where all participants could contribute to shaping the future of education, “The Beginning of Now.”
